Spiritual Awakening

I’ve been thinking a bit about spiritual growth and religion. Faith, Repentence, Baptism, and the Gift of the Holy Ghost. I’ve been taught the Gospel since I was young. What’s always amazed me about it is what I learned since I actually began studying it indepth. Look at everything in the world around us that is negative and destructive. Every problem in life can be solved by mastering the various principles of the Gospel.

Violence facing many of our inner cities could be ended by learning to turn the other cheek. The economy would be fixed if we let go of our covetness, selfishness, and dishonest practices. Unruly children could be raised to be productive members of society if both mother and father worked together to fulfilly their obligations as parents. People wouldn’t starve if they learned to love their neighbor as themselves and the glorious principle of hard work.

God is real. And if we are going to survive this world, we need to reconnect with Him in ways we never dreamed about. How many of us will watch hours and hours of reruns on TV, but won’t spend 10 minutes reading the scriptures? How many of us will talk for hours on the phone with our friends and yet won’t humble themselves in sincere prayer with their Heavenly Father? Do we honestly think this doesn’t effect our lives?

Giant corporations will spend billions of dollars every year for a 30 second advertisement during a television show because they think it will convince you to buy their products. And amazingly, that works. But so many of seem to think that the books we read, the shows we watch, the music we listen to, and everything else doesn’t effect us whatsoever.  5 mins of scripture study or prayer a day will change your life for the better. I’ve seen it happen.

Now, I am going to say something that may shock some people. (Those who know me won’t be surprised). But I think God has more to teach us that what is in the scriptures. I think He has made things pretty clear that the principles He teaches in the scriptures are merely the introductory courses in understand Him. He wants us to actually get to know Him personally. He wants us to learn from the Heavens through Faith and through the best books we have available.

We need to awaken our souls to what is around us. We need to actually become Spiritual people. And you know what, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know or understand everything now. If you don’t know whether there is a God, that’s alright. Seek for the knowledge and God will reveal Himself to you. If you don’t understand the scriptures, pray to God and let Him reveal it to you. Even if you think you already know it, pray for greater understanding and ask yourself whether you understand everything correctly. If you want to know who you are, seek and you will find.

We all expect miracles to happen and yet we don’t prepare our hearts and minds to recieve them. God wants to train us as spiritual PhDs, and we limit ourselves to Religion 101. Have you been spiritually born of God? If you have can you feel that way now?

If you were called to stand before God today, how would you feel?

This nation, this world, is in desperate need of a Spiritual Awakening. And it’s not something that can be forced on people. It’s something that has to happen person by person, line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little. We can’t just rely on what God has done in the past, we need to rely on Him in the Present and Look to Him in the Future.

Seek the Grace of God. Seek revelation and knowledge from Him. Don’t limit your life to what you think you know, go and learn something more. Seek something more. Begin a journey to learn about your spirituality today. Come and know the Father of our Souls and His Son.

Challenges:
1) Pray everyday. Pour out your heart to God in sincere and humble prayer.

2) Study the scriptures and seek the Spirit to understand.

3) Be humble before God and men and be honest with yourself, others, and God.

This wasn’t the message I originally intended to write about. But my heart is drawn out on this right now. Take the challenges. What do you have to lose?

  1. I like this part of your post a lot:

“We all expect miracles to happen and yet we don’t prepare our hearts and minds to receive them.”

One of my favorite lines from the Bible has always been 1 Samuel 3:10:

The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.

Though, the rest of that chapter I don’t have a whole lot of confidence in…

But I do think we need to be more receptive to the Voice that speaks within.

  2. You wrote: “Every problem in life can be solved by mastering the various principles of the Gospel.”

In his book, “The Knowledge of the Holy,” Tozer wrote that, “all our problems and their solutions are theological.”

This idea has followed me ever since I read the book. The complication, of course, is that we can only choose for ourselves. Still, as you said, perhaps it grows person by person.

Thanks for this challenge! I accept it.

    Pax Domini.

  3. Awesome post! I rejoice in knowing there are other people that won’t conform to this American lifestyle.

“We need to actually become Spiritual people.” Love it!

We are the people of God and can’t adopt to this way of living. God does give us instruction in His Word and also direction to find peace and true joy while living in this temporary home we call earth.

Again, great great post! Thanks again for stopping by my place.

    Blessings!
